Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) To Channel $7 Billion In Expansion Of Offices
Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is channeling about $7 billion towards expanding its data centers and offices across the U.S. Sources indicate that it will use about $1 billion into California, its home state. The company also plans to add to its workforce by hiring 10,000 new full-time workers as part of its preparations for the post-pandemic recovery in the U.S.
Company shifts from a slow down
The new change might hit most people by surprise, considering how the company slowed down in investments last year. The search giant explained the slowdown by pointing to the magnitude of the Covid-19 crisis. In April the same year, the company’s CEO Sundar Pichai disclosed the plan to slow the hiring process through a memo.
Google has been one of several companies that benefited last year from the accelerated shift in online ad spending. The experienced growth was a good thing, but it did not significantly change the planned 2021 U.S. investment, which remains below the pre-pandemic levels.
New investments
Google’s investment plan this year focuses on the existing sites, but there are also plans to set up three new offices. The company has confirmed the new sites, which include North Carolina, Texas, and Minnesota. The search giant wants to expand its business operations, and the penetration to about 19 states is part of the big plan.
Google has also spoken about its focus on the existing sites in Atlanta, New York, Chicago, and Washington. The initial target was to expand the company’s footprint beyond Silicon Valley. The business now wants to add thousands of roles in the sites mentioned above. The company said that it had about 135,000 employees worldwide by the end of the last year.
Mr. Pichai shared his views through a blog post on Thursday, outlining his company’s focus on collaborations targeted to growing its community. The official showed a great attachment to Google’s culture, outlining that his leadership focuses on brightening its business future. Mr. Pichai is about to appear before Congress to answer questions regarding misinformation on internet platforms.
