Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) Reveals The Cost Of Hands-Free Active Driver Assist
Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) has indicated that its Active Driver Assist (ADA) system, which offers hands-free driving, will not come as standard on the vehicles supporting it. The system is expected in 2021, and the company is preparing for the arrival by releasing more details about the feature that includes pricing and its availability.
Ford announces pricing of ADA system
The company has revealed the cost of the ADA option for certain 2021 electric Mustang Mach-E models and F-150 pickup models. The technology which will be available in Q3 2021 will allow drivers to operate cars hands-free on over 100,000 miles of highways in Canada and the US. The system will come with an interior camera that tracks head movement and eye gaze to ensure the driver is attentive while on the road. Should the driver seem not to be keeping eyes on the road, the system could prompt them to keep hands on the steering wheel and eyes on the road.
The ADA system needs Ford Co-Pilot360 Active 2.0 package for it to work in the F-150 pickup. The system will be available as a standard on the Limited variant, and for the F-150 Lariat, Platinum, and King Ranch models its will cost around $1,595. The Co-Piloy360 package has the necessary hardware needed for ADA, like a forward-facing camera and radar sensors.
ADA to be available in Q3 2021
On the other hand, the prep package costs $895 for the early 2021 F-150 pickup customers. The ADA system, which includes a 3-year service period, will cost an additional $600, and the company plans to avail it as an over-the-air update in the third quarter of next year. In 2H, 2021drivers will be able to purchase hardware and software needed for ADA without an update.
Interestingly the tech will be standard in the Premium, Mach-E’s CA Route, and First Edition variants. Those opting for the Select variant can get it with the Comfort and Technology package for $3,200. They will also enjoy heated front seats and steering wheel, as well as a 360-degree camera with the package.
