Nokia Oyj (NYSE:NOK) Expand Strategic Collaboration with Deutsche Telekom Group On Building 5G Network
Nokia Oyj (NYSE:NOK) and Deutsche Telekom Group have announced an expansion to their strategic collaboration for the development of 5G ready IP network.
Deutsche Telekom modernizing IP edge/core network
Deutsche Telekom plans to deploy Nokia’s 7750 Service Router platform designed for the cloud and 5G eras in expanding capacity across edge/core routing network. The expansion is part of the efforts to modernize the current IP core/edge network as the company prepared for 5G and next-generation broadband services. Initially, Deutsche Telekom will focus on Greece and Hungry. Already deployment has commenced in Greece, and Nokia is modernizing and replacing current IP network and rollout un Hungary will commence in Q4 2020.
Networks have been experiencing unpredictable demands and extraordinary traffic growth. As a result, operators have shown commitment meet increasing performance requirements at the same time driving cuts in-network costs. Nokia 7750 SR-s platform’s scale, versatility and feature breadth address the requirements, thus allowing operators such as Deutsche Telekom to create smarter, major, secure and automated networks with enhanced return on investment.
Notably, part of Deutsche Telekom’s network modernization is replacing the current existing IP core/edge network that had reached its end of service. The network provider will replace it with a new network that will cope with ultra-broadband access and 5G requirements. The main principle to achieving this is by network layers consolidation through IP aggregation and edge/BNG functions integrations into a single converged layer.
Nokia 7750 SR-s to help Deutsche enhance IP network capacity
The rationale behind Deutsche Telekom’s choice of the Nokia SR-7s router is because of their support for provider edge’s full-spectrum, gateway and core function for mobile, residential and enterprise services. The programmable FP4 network processing silicon powers the routers, which will enable Deutsche Telekom to enhance its IP network capacity through deterministic performance for premium subscriber experience. Therefore, Deutsche can support 5G interconnectivity and enhance growth in backbone traffic driven by the increase in mobility applications, gaming, and video streaming, among others.
Nokia Network Service Platform, which manages the 7750 SR-s, supports 5G IP transport with optical transport layers and automated IP slicing.
