Tesla Inc. (NYSE:TSLA) Ranks First In An Electric Vehicle Ownership Study In The US
Tesla Inc. (NYSE:TSLA) took the top price in the first-ever Electric Vehicle Ownership Study By consumer intelligence firm JD Power. The study aimed to look at the top EVs in the US to set the standard for benchmark electric car owner satisfaction in which Tesla showed to have an absolute lock in the EV segment.
A new study reveals Tesla is the top EV brand
Although Tesla topped the study, it is important to note that the study only involved select cars for the 2021 iteration. Since there are not many EV options available in the IS, JD Power broke the study into the mass and premium markets. The study established that 27% of Americans were more likely to buy an electric car in the next four years. Interestingly, JD Power tried to address the issue of the standard of EVs is by considering factors such as range, cost of ownership, ease of charging, and problems experienced.
These factors helped determine the gold standard in the EV sector. Around 10,000 owners participated in the survey which poled both plug-in hybrids and battery-electric cars from 2015 through 2021. Tesla took first place despite the US market not yet populated as others.
Tesla Model S ranked the best EV
The Tesla Model S had the highest rating from drivers with 738 points out of 1,000. Notably, this is indicative of the Consumer Reports 2013 study which ranked Tesla’s Model S as the “Best Car Ever Tested.” Besides the Model S, the Model 3 and Model Y also took the second and third places respectively with Audi e-Tron ranking fourth.
Tesla is the undisputed leader in the EV sector with the company enjoying a healthy lead in EV software, manufacturing, and range. Despite criticism in recent times, the brand’s owners can be forgiving in terms of overlooking reliability and quality concerns for the experience.
On the mass market segment, Kia Niro EV took the top spot with 782 points with Chevrolet Bolt EV, Hyundai Kona EV, and Nissan Leaf ranking second, third and fourth respectively.
