Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) Extends Its 5G Network To San Jose, California
Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) 5G network is now available in San Jose, California. This brings to 36 the number of cities that have been connected to the company’s 5G network. The company rolled out its 5G network last year.
In a statement, the company said areas that will be covered by its 5G network include:-
- Excite Ballpark, outside of the CEFCU Stadium,
- Arena Green East, Guadalupe River Park,
- South San Jose, North San Jose, West San Jose,
- Little Italy, Little Saigon, and
- Parts of downtown San Jose.
The Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband network offers ultra-low latency, high speeds, and allows you to connect several devices. The race to shift to 5G network is around the world. Although Verizon was first to launch the U.S, other telecom providers have since joined the race. These include AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) and T-Mobile Us Inc (NASDAQ: TMUS) that rolled out their 5G networks early this year.
The new network replaces the 4G connection and offers faster download and upload speed. It aims to revolutionize web browsing and in-app experience.
Verizon expanding its mobile edge computing (MEC) services
In other news, Verizon has announced that it is expanding its mobile edge computing (MEC) services, which is a combination of Verizon’s 5G and Amazon’s AWS Wavelength. The blended 5G MEC is accessible in Boston and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Verizon strikes to install 5G in South Korea
Those who travel internationally will soon have a chance to enjoy Verizon’s 5G network after the company announced that it signed a deal with South Korean wireless provider LG U Plus to allow those visiting the country enjoy the 5G network.
The deal will allow Verizon travellers have devices that are compatible with 5G to enjoy the country’s network. Travelers will be able to connect into South Korea’s 3.5GHz midband 5G network with an average speed of 252 megabits per second and upload speeds of 119Mbps.
The company says travelers will need compatible devices to enjoy the 5G network in South Korea. It is, however, not clear if international travelers will take advantage of international roaming.
